Why PPA 25?

Essex currently has around 2,500 defects across its 10,000 km of public rights of way — blocked stiles, overgrown paths, broken bridges and more, where a defect is an issue checked by an Inspector who has agreed that action will be taken. But here's the problem: we estimate that around one in four defects on that list has already been fixed. And of course, some defects may well have got worse.

Essex Ramblers can help Essex Highways by checking the status of each defect.

PPA 25 gives you a way to pick a parish, select its defects, plan a walk around them, and report back what you actually find on the ground. Your report goes via our coordinators to Essex Highways and helps them focus on the problems that genuinely still need fixing. (An Enquiry is an issue raised by the public via Track-It, which first needs to be assessed by an Inspector, and which may or may not become a Defect.)

The task of a PPA should be well within the scope of the vast majority of our members and it is an easy way for Ramblers to make a real contribution to our Charitable Objectives.
